I’ve been fortunate to spend Christmas Day with others but I’ve been on my own on Boxing Day. The year that my husband died I drove back to the Port of Bormes and found it deserted, There was absolutely no one about. I believe in guardian angels and know that mine are with me. If you want yours to be with you, you’ll never be alone! May I share this poem I’ve written about Christmas with you?
Tinsel time, lights are flashing
Late night shopping, people dashing
In the hectic hurly rush, do we stop to wonder
Why a birth so long ago still produces thunder?
Thunder of a swirling kind, waves of rainbow hue
Rushing, spending, reeling, counting, not much left, it’s true,
In this yearly Christmas spin as excitement spirals
Is it for the children’s sake we plot and plan these marvels?
I guess we’re all so young inside we need this warmth and show
To melt the adult pomp and pride
Give love a chance to glow.
Love that began in Bethlehem, born in a lowly shed
Still shapes our lives and paves the way to face the year ahead.
So let’s enjoy each Christmas time
Ignore the lust and greed.
It’s caring for each other that fulfills our inner need.
