If you won a four day trip to anywhere in Europe, where would you choose to go? To celebrate his birthday, my ex son-in-law took my grandchildren and their partners to Berlin. The reason for his choice? He is a vegan and Berlin has the most vegan restaurants. Once he invited me to join the family in Barcelona. We walked for an hour before finding just one! The highlight of that trip for me was our visit to the Picasso Museum where Martin bought me a scarf.
Having written in this magazine and the preceding church version for over 13 years, I expect you can guess where I would choose to go! My heart is in France surprise, surprise…! When we lived there we returned to England several times a year to visit our family, and each time we visited Claude Monet’s House and Garden on our route back home again. We were both great fans of that artist and I still am. Under my glass table top are photos that we took there.
Why should I choose to go back when I have been so often? It would be a different experience. The S.N.C.F. (the French Railway Network) has launched 'Impressionist trains'. They are decorated inside and out with Monet’s artwork. On Saturdays and Sundays the trains start at the Gare St Lazare in Paris and then head for Giverny and Rouen following a route that inspired Monet’s most famous paintings. What bliss! I can’t imagine any trip more tempting. “Art on the move”
How about you? Good luck!
